Most importantly, our primary goal is to keep your pet as healthy as possible by detecting diseases early when they are easier to manage before they become a crisis. Wellness exams are for pets that do not have a health issue you are worried about! We recommend a Wellness Exam twice yearly, which would be the same as a person going in for an Exam every 3 years. The best way to keep your pet healthy is by regular Wellness Exams.

Secondly, Wellness Blood Testing is recommended once yearly. A blood test or blood and urine test is needed depending on the age. Wellness Testing detects diseases in their early stages, those which cannot be found on an exam alone. The blood tests check for infection, anemia, inflammatory disease, diabetes, kidney disease, liver disease, pancreatic disease, thyroid gland disease and heartworms as well as many other diseases. The urine tests check for urinary infection, kidney diseases, urinary stones, urinary cancer, diabetes, and other diseases.

Third most important, Vaccinations can save your pet's life. We follow the American Animal Hospital Association's guidelines to vaccinate your pet every 3 years for Distemper, Adenovirus, Parainfluenza, Parvovirus, and Rabies. (Three year vaccines require the 1 year puppy/kitten booster first for full protection!) We recommend vaccinating once yearly for the following diseases: Bordetella (Kennel Cough), and the multiple bacterial strains of Leptospirosis (also known as canine typhus or infectious jaundice; spreads to humans by contact with urine). Vaccines can only be done if a pet is up-to-date with their yearly exam and Rabies is required to be done with an exam!

Lastly, Parasite prevention is important to your pet's quality of life. We have multiple options for heartworm and flea and tick prevention available at internet competitive prices. We live in a subtropical climate therefore; the prevalence of intestinal parasites is higher than other areas of the country. We recommend fecal parasite testing every 6 months. (This is not a heartworm test!) Heartworm tests require exams and heartworm tests to be done at least yearly!
